ZipZoomer Build a ZIP code list for Google Ads location targeting

Loading ZIP outlines…

ZipZoomer builds the ZIP code list for a Google Ads campaign: pick the ZIP codes around your business by radius, draw the area you serve, or paste a list you already have, then copy it one ZIP code per line, ready for Google Ads’ bulk location entry. Targeting by ZIP code gives you clean edges, results you can read ZIP by ZIP, and the same list you use for mail and service areas.

The map above opens on a 10-mile radius around 98101 in downtown Seattle as an example. Search your own ZIP code to start there.

How to make the list and add it in Google Ads

  1. Select the ZIP codes in ZipZoomer: a radius around your ZIP code, a drawn circle or lasso, or a pasted list. Use Touching to reach every ZIP code the area touches, or Fully in to stay strictly inside.
  2. Leave out PO Box and single-organization ZIP codes if you like, by unchecking them under ZIP types; they have few or no residents.
  3. Choose New line as the separator in the list panel and press Copy list.
  4. In Google Ads, open Campaigns › Locations, click the pencil, choose the campaign and tick Add locations in bulk.
  5. Paste the list, set the field under the box to United States, press Search, then Target All and Save.
  6. More than 1,000 ZIP codes? Paste them in batches of up to 1,000 (see below).

Splitting a long list

A 25-mile radius around a big city can hold 500 or more ZIP codes, and a regional campaign several thousand. To paste them in batches, choose New line, press Download file, open the .txt file in any text editor, and copy 1,000 lines at a time. Sorting by ZIP number (the list panel’s Order setting) keeps each batch in one part of the map, which makes the review in Google Ads easier to check.

Exclusions

To keep ads out of some ZIP codes inside a wider target, such as an area you do not serve, build that list the same way and paste it on the Locations exclusions tab with Exclude all. Exclusions count toward the 10,500 limit. ZipZoomer’s Remove tools help here too: select the whole area, cut out the part you want to exclude, and the list you copy is already the difference.

Radius in Google Ads or a ZIP list?

Google Ads can also target a radius around an address. That is quick, but the circle’s edge cuts through neighborhoods and its reports are by location, not ZIP code. A ZIP list from ZipZoomer lets you decide the edge with the edge rule, see the 2020 population before you spend, and reuse the same list for mail, landing pages and reports. See how many ZIP codes a radius holds in cities and small towns.

Questions and answers

How many ZIP codes can a Google Ads campaign target?

Up to 10,000 individual locations, ZIP codes included, within Google’s limit of 10,500 location targets per campaign, which also counts exclusions (checked October 26, 2026). Bulk entry takes up to 1,000 at a time.

Do I need to add the state to each ZIP code?

Usually not when the country field under the bulk box is set to United States. Google’s own example adds it (“94103, California”), so add the state for any ZIP code Google does not match.

Should I include PO Box ZIP codes?

They cover post office boxes rather than homes and have few or no residents, so they add little to a campaign’s reach. Uncheck PO Box ZIPs under ZIP types to leave them out of every radius and drawing.

How do I keep the list for later?

Press Copy share link in the list panel and save the link: it reopens the same ZIP codes on the map. Download file saves the list itself.

Can ZipZoomer add the ZIP codes to Google Ads for me?

No. ZipZoomer has no connection to your ad accounts. You copy the list and paste it into Google Ads yourself, so nothing about your campaigns passes through ZipZoomer.
