Circle is measured from where you first press; Lasso follows your outline. The switch under Add and Remove decides which ZIPs count: Touching (any ZIP the shape touches), Center in (the ZIP's center point is inside) or Fully in (the whole ZIP is inside). For an exact distance, type a ZIP above and press Radius.
To leave out PO Box or single-organization ZIPs (a company, university or government office), or to keep only those, uncheck the others under ZIP types in the list panel.
The dotted grip on each box moves it: click or tap the grip to fold the box away, drag it to put the box somewhere else.
About ZipZoomer: what it does, the data it uses, and answers to common questions.
ZipZoomer finds every ZIP code within 25 miles of any U.S. ZIP code, shows them on a map with their real outlines, and gives you the list to copy or download as a CSV file. Twenty-five miles is a distance many store locators and job sites offer as a search choice, and a common edge for “free delivery” or “no travel fee” areas. A 25-mile circle covers about 1,963 square miles: most of a metro area. About a third of ZIP codes (34.5%) have a 25-mile circle that reaches into a second state.
The map above opens on a 25-mile radius around 77002 in Houston, TX, which takes 239 ZIP codes with about 5.2 million people.
From 2 around 59301 in Miles City, MT to 673 around 10001 in New York, NY:
| Place | Start | ZIPs | People |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York, NY 2 states: NJ NY | 10001 | 673 | 14.8 million |
| Los Angeles, CA | 90012 | 493 | 9.9 million |
| Chicago, IL 2 states: IL IN | 60601 | 237 | 5.6 million |
| Houston, TX | 77002 | 239 | 5.2 million |
| Phoenix, AZ | 85004 | 167 | 3.9 million |
| Liberal, KS 2 states: KS OK | 67901 | 8 | 31,000 |
| Scottsbluff, NE | 69361 | 9 | 27,000 |
| Miles City, MT | 59301 | 2 | 12,000 |
For a delivery or travel-fee boundary, use Fully in if a ZIP code that is half outside the circle should pay the fee, and Touching if it should not. The radius card’s count, and the population total in the list panel after you add, change with the rule, so you can see the trade-off.
Over all 41,063 ZIP codes, the median count within 25 miles is 49; the largest is 685, around 10040 in New York, NY. 99.6% have another ZIP code within 25 miles, and for 34.5% the 25-mile list spans a state line.
Twenty-five miles here is a straight line between center points (where each ZIP code’s number or dot sits on the map), not driving distance. Population is from the 2020 Census.
Houston’s ZIP codes are larger on average, so fewer of them fit in the same circle: 239 around 77002 against 493 around 90012 in Los Angeles. The populations differ less than the counts do, 5.2 million against 9.9 million. Counting people, not ZIP codes, is often the better measure of reach.
Around the five big cities in the table, between 3.9 million (Phoenix) and 14.8 million (New York). Around the three rural county seats, between about 12,000 and 31,000. The list panel adds up the 2020 population of whatever you select.
The app’s default rule, Touching, also takes ZIP codes the circle only partly covers; the table and the map above use Center in.
Yes. Choose Circle, hold SHIFT and drag outward from the spot until the readout shows 25 mi; on a phone, hold Add with one finger and draw with another.
