Circle is measured from where you first press; Lasso follows your outline. The switch under Add and Remove decides which ZIPs count: Touching (any ZIP the shape touches), Center in (the ZIP's center point is inside) or Fully in (the whole ZIP is inside). For an exact distance, type a ZIP above and press Radius.
To leave out PO Box or single-organization ZIPs (a company, university or government office), or to keep only those, uncheck the others under ZIP types in the list panel.
The dotted grip on each box moves it: click or tap the grip to fold the box away, drag it to put the box somewhere else.
About ZipZoomer: what it does, the data it uses, and answers to common questions.
ZipZoomer finds every ZIP code within 15 miles of any U.S. ZIP code, shows them on a map with their real outlines, and gives you the list to copy or download as a CSV file. Fifteen miles is about the reach of a typical commute: 20 to 30 minutes by car outside rush hour. A 15-mile circle around a downtown takes in most of the suburbs people drive in from each day, and its area (707 square miles) is 2.25 times that of a 10-mile circle.
The map above opens on a 15-mile radius around 85004 in Phoenix, AZ, which takes 117 ZIP codes with about 2.3 million people.
From 1 around 59301 in Miles City, MT to 442 around 10001 in New York, NY:

For a hiring or commute area, a radius is a first cut: rivers, bridges and highways make some ZIP codes inside 15 miles slow to reach and some outside it quick. After adding the radius, click single ZIP codes to add or remove them, or draw a lasso with Remove to cut out an area across a river or bay.
Over all 41,063 ZIP codes, the median count within 15 miles is 18; the largest is 478, around 20816 in Bethesda, MD. 97.6% have another ZIP code within 15 miles, and for 20.6% the 15-mile list spans a state line.
Fifteen miles here is a straight line between center points (where each ZIP code’s number or dot sits on the map), not driving distance. Population is from the 2020 Census.
The circle’s area grows 2.25 times, but the count depends on what the extra ring covers. Around 60601 in Chicago the count goes from 81 to 134, because the ring adds suburbs and half the circle is Lake Michigan. Around 90012 in Los Angeles it goes from 181 to 304. Around 59301 in Miles City, Montana, it stays at 1.
Fifteen miles is 24.1 kilometers. The radius card takes either unit: switch to km and type 24 for nearly the same circle. Decimals work too, such as 15.5.
The app’s default rule, Touching, also takes ZIP codes the circle only partly covers; the table and the map above use Center in.
Yes. Choose Circle, hold SHIFT and drag outward from the spot until the readout shows 15 mi; on a phone, hold Add with one finger and draw with another.
